Hello to all of your wonderful people helping the Ihmaid and Foura families survive the unimaginable. Thanks to your generosity this family was able to leave Gaza City and find a room in the “safe” zone before the impending destruction of Gaza City. Thank you so much for making sure these children who have been through something so unfathomable currently have a room to sleep in and some food. Hamdy and Shaymaa are such devoted parents and aunt and uncle to these seven children.

Alma continues to understandably struggle greatly due to the trauma of wondering her parents’ deaths and being without them. They haven’t been able to access mental health care for her due to the collapse of really everything.

Right now what we really need are people who would be willing and able to contribute some consistent amount to them so that we can make sure they’re able to continue to rent this room and buy food. For example, could you committ to $25 per week? Or even $15? Truly any amount helps so much when we all work together.

Right now the commission there is close to 40% (meaning they have to transfer funds virtually to cash vendors, who then take 40% of the amount in order to get cash to buy food) and the food that is making it inside is shockingly expensive. With the impending mass displacement of everyone in Gaza City, things are likely to get much worse so whatever you can do to donate or share is so greatly appreciated by them and this group do moms helping them.

Sending much love and gratitude,

Danielle

This is Danielle and I just wanted to provide an update to this amazing community of people trying to help this beautiful family.

This past week Alma, Muhammed and Jumana’s oldest, has continued to really struggle with PTSD and the constant sound of war planes and drones are a real trigger. Her aunts and uncle have been doing everything they can to help her feel safe and loved. We had the idea of finding her a small smooth stone that she can hold and to let her know that people from all over the world have sent wishes and prayers for her safety and protection and we’re hoping that she can feel those.

Hamdy also got sick this past week and needed to get an IV for dehydration. Like so many people, he’s suffered from gastroenteritis due to the contaminated water and malnutrition. He did start feeling well enough that he was able to get the children some new mattresses for the tent, which they were so happy about.

They also have had some very terrifying nights, including last night. They are trying to figure out if they should leave the area where their tent is for somewhere further south where the bombing may be less intense, but there’s just really nowhere safe to go.

Thank you so much for donating, sharing their campaign, and keeping them in your thoughts and prayers. I know they feel the love and it gives them some hope in this dark time.

This is Danielle and I wanted to say thank you so much on behalf of Hamdy and Shaimaa for everyone who has helped so far. I also wanted to share an update about Muhammed and Jumana’s children as well as an urgent request for prayers for them. Alma, their oldest, is understandably still having an extremely difficult time. I have been researching any way to connect them with any sort of trauma therapy, which you can imagine is basically impossible given the scale of devastation and lack of resources. But if you’re reading this and know of anything, please let me know.

Hamdy has shared that Alma is terrified to sleep in a tent after seeing what happened to her parents in the tent they were all in. She says there’s no way for the tents to protect them against bombing and gunfire, which is of course true.

Here’s what her uncle wrote just now in the group chat: “How long will they continue to try to destroy us? Night is approaching and the sound of the bombing is getting louder now and the ambulances’ sounds are frightening. My children hate the night because of the bombing and we have no light. We see the sky shining from the intensity of the bombing. Alma has the right to hate sleeping in the tent. She sees everything in the tent. Our children are sleep deprived. I try my best to stay around them and calm their nerves from fear, but my heart is full of fear for my family, but I do not show it to my family.”

I also wanted to provide an update that today the commission to get cash reached 56% and is rising every single day. For those who don’t know, with no new bills or currency entering in almost two years almost, almost all of the cash literally having disintegrated, and nearly every bank branch and ATM inoperable, people have become reliant on an unrestrained network of powerful cash brokers to get money for daily expenses.

What this means is that for every $100 we send, they only get $44 of it and there really is no food available for less than about $50, including the most basic things like small bags of flour. Whatever way you’re able to help means so much. Please keep donating, sharing, praying, and holding them in your hearts. Thank you so much for loving them from afar.
